// The Shelf // Helly Acton // Book Review 4.5⭐️ //

Thank you to @tandemcollectiveuk@zaffrebooks@hellyactonauthor@bonnierbooks_uk@theshelfuk and @daisyedgarjones for the gifted audiobook, to participate in my first Listenalong.

Witty, Feminist, Empowering.

Amy, surprised by her long term boyfriend, with a dream holiday. Feeling like everyone is growing up and getting married, she is desperate to settle down. However when they arrive, she realises that she’s been signed up, for a reality tv show with five other women. Getting dumped on tv by her boyfriend, they are all left competing to not get ‘left on the shelf’.

It is reality show genius, which I know as much as we all say we wouldn’t watch....we really would. Acton’s writing is full of wittiness, unapologetic and downright brilliant characters. I ‘belly laughed’ at so many parts of it, which meant I had some strange looks when listening in public. It is so unlike any other book I have ‘read’ recently and it is just completely refreshing. I have to admit I had to wait a little while to warm to a couple of the women, when first placed in the house...and downright hated Jamie from chapter 1, but I loved the way it progressed. Did I mention it’s voiced on audiobook by Daisy Edgar - Jones....✌🏻

Packed full of life lessons for the 2020 woman, it’s feminism packaged in an effortless way.
