|| The Beekeeper of Aleppo || Christy Lefteri || • Book Review 5⭐️
Harrowing, heart - wrenching, beautiful.
It follows the story of bee keeper Nuri and his wife Afra, fleeing the dangers of their war torn Syria, desperate to reach the UK. The heartbreak and destruction surrounding them on their journey, flashing forward and back between their life now and then.
This book broke my heart into pieces, it shone a bright light into the sea of people we see on the news everyday, giving them names, faces and stories. All making their own desperate journeys, risking everything for a tiny slice of safety. The safety we take for granted everyday.
It’s a book that we should all read, if anything, to remind ourselves how very safe and lucky we truly are, that we should be kind and compassionate to those who need help.
Lefteri has written a vivid, compassionate story to give a voice to the lost.
