|| Clock Dance || Anne Tyler || Book Review 3⭐️||

Subtle, emotional depth.

Willa grew up with one sister, Elaine. Their mother’s mood, up and down with the wind and a passive father. Into adulthood her life is very ordinary, until she gets a phone call in her sixties, that her son’s ex girlfriend has been shot and she is needed to take care of her daughter. Without a thought she travels across the country to care for her, realising there is much more to be had, than the life she had been leading.

This is the first Tyler book I have read and it is so incredibly subtle that it is easy to let her genius pass you by. She manages to tap into such real life emotions, the minor details of humdrum existence that fail to warrant a second thought, she captures in focus.

I appreciated her writing however I found that the characters were slightly forgettable and I really disliked the abrupt ending, hence the three star rating. I would be interested in reading her other books, as she is so highly rated and I found her style of writing so different.
